Zoom Lenses for Precision Imaging
Avantier designs and manufactures custom and stock zoom lenses and varifocal lenses for inspection, machine vision, robotics, medical imaging, and surveillance applications, with manual and motorized configurations available to fit system requirements.
Both varifocal and zoom lenses use are equipped with movable internal elements to adjust focal length, offering a versatile solution for applications requiring a specific field of view at a given working distance.A lens may be specified with a range such as 2.8 — 12mm or 5–50mm, indicating that the focal length can be varied within these specified intervals — from a wide-angle field of view at the shorter end to a narrower, more telephoto view at the longer end. These lenses are used across inspection, machine vision, robotics, and other precision imaging fields.
Varifocal and zoom lenses allow selection of an effective focal length within a given range such as 6–60mm. Varifocal lenses require refocusing whenever the focal length is adjusted, while zoom lenses maintain focus throughout the adjustment. They are also generally more compact and economical, making them a cost-effective alternative to zoom lenses.

Applications for Precision Imaging
Zoom lenses support a range of precision imaging tasks where variable magnification, focal length adjustment, or field-of-view control is required without swapping optics.
- Inspection systems
- Machine Vision
- Robotics
- Medical Imaging
- Surveillance and Security
Durability & Lifespan for Industrial Applications
- Material Construction:
Industrial-grade zoom lenses are often constructed with robust materials such as anodized aluminum housings and tempered glass, resist corrosion, wear , and tear, making the lenses suitable for long-term use in harsh conditions, such as factories, outdoor installations, or high-vibration settings. - Sealed Designs:
Sealed designs are essential in environments like food processing, chemical manufacturing, or outdoor machine vision systems, where exposure to dust, moisture and contaminants could otherwise degrade optical performance over time. - Shock and Vibration Resistance:
Industrial zoom lenses are often designed to withstand mechanical shocks and vibrations that occur in heavy machinery or mobile robotic systems, maintaining their alignment and focus even after prolonged exposure to such conditions. - Thermal Stability:
Durable zoom lenses are engineered to retain their optical performance despite wide temperature fluctuations , using thermal resistant materials or thermal compensation technologies to prevent expansion or contraction that could affect image quality. - Long Operating Life:
Anti-scratch coatings on lens surfaces, high-quality moving parts, and long-lasting lubricants ensure smooth zooming actions over years of use.
