Purpose of Laser Line Filters

  • Laser line filters are precision optical filters with narrow passbands designed to work at specific laser wavelengths.
  • They are used to prevent signal distortion, increase image contrast, and eliminate undesirable background radiation and ambient light in various applications.

Applications

These filters find applications in laser-based fluorescence instrumentation, Raman spectroscopy, analytical instruments, and medical laser systems.

Characteristics of Avantier’s Laser Line Filters

  • Ultrahigh peak transmission, typically greater than 90%.
  • Excellent blocking capability (optical density > 5.0) within ±1% of the laser wavelength.
  • Narrow bandwidth with a typical Full Width Half Maximum (FWHM) of less than 0.38% of the laser wavelength.

Notch Filters

Avantier also offers notch filters, which reject a specific band of light while transmitting all other wavelengths.

Environmental Stability

  • Filters are dielectric coated using Ion Beam Sputtering (IBS) technology, ensuring environmental stability and a long lifespan.
  • Temperature stability with a center wavelength shift of less than 0.02 nm per degree Celsius.

Angle of Incidence Tuning

The center wavelength of the filter can be fine-tuned by adjusting the angle of incidence of the laser beam using the formula provided in the text.

Standard Specifications

  • Peak transmittance greater than 90%.
  • FWHM typically 0.38% of the laser center wavelength (λc), with a maximum of 0.7% of λc.
  • Clear aperture greater than 80%.
  • Operating temperature ranges from -45°C to approximately 85°C, with temperature dependence guaranteed to be less than 5 ppm/°C.
  • Meets environmental and physical durability standards (MIL-STD-810F and MIL-C-48497A).
  • Various mounting options available, including black-anodized aluminum ring mountings.
  • Surface quality of 60/40 scratch dig, beam deviation of no more than 11 arc seconds, and tight tolerances on diameter and thickness.
