Band-Pass Filter Glass:  Its spectral characteristic is composed of maximum transmissivity (TM) wavelength of the peak (lM), front-cut-off wavelength, behind-cut-off wavelength, and half-peak width. The wavelength corresponding to the half of the maximum transmissivity are l2 and l1. And the half-peak width is determined by l2 – l1. Band-Pass Filter Glass is named DTB, and wavelength of the peak is used as its serial number.

Key Specifications for Optical Filters

When selecting the optimal optical filter for your application, there are several specifications to consider. The Cut-on Wavelength represents the point at which transmission reaches 50 percent in a longpass filter, while the Cut-off Wavelength is the point at which transmission reaches 50 percent in a shortpass filter. For edge filters, the slope is expressed as a percentage of the cut wavelength with designated starting and end points.

For example, a 600 nm filter with a 1 percent slope and start/end points at 10 percent and 80 percent transmission would transition over a 6 nm bandwidth. Optical density (OD) indicates the amount of light attenuated by the filter and is calculated based on the transmission percentage in the blocked region. Higher OD values indicate lower transmission. Fluorescence microscopy typically requires an optical density of 6 or greater, while laser separation and chemical detection need values in the 3-4 range. Filters with OD less than 2 are suitable for applications like color sorting or spectral separations. The Blocking Range denotes the wavelength range blocked by the filter, typically where transmission is below 50 percent. Bandwidth, also known as Full Width Half Maximum (FWHM), describes the portion of the spectrum transmitted through the filter, achieving more than 50 percent transmission. The Central Wavelength corresponds to the midpoint of the FWHM and may coincide with the point of maximum transmission, especially in traditional coated optic filters. The choice of optical coatings depends on the primary transmission range of your optical filter.
