Wide-Angle Lenses
Wide-angle lenses have a short focal length and wide field of view. They enable machine vision devices to capture more background. Their wide field of view also helps landscape photographers to include more of the scene in an image. At Avantier, we produce custom wide-angle lenses with premium build quality for machine vision and photography applications.
Applications of Wide-Angle Lenses
- Machine Vision
- Automotive Imaging
- AR/MR/VR
- Surveillance and Security
- UAVs and Robotics
Other Applications
Wide-angle lenses are also widely used in medical imaging, remote sensing, industrial inspection, metrology, scientific imaging, smartphone cameras, action cameras, video conferencing systems, and agricultural imaging, where maximizing field of view or minimizing the number of required cameras is an important design objective.

Specifications of Wide-Angle Lenses
- A wide-angle lens for a 35 mm full-frame camera typically has a focal length of 35 mm or less, while an ultra-wide-angle lens has a focal length of 24 mm or shorter.
- Fisheye lenses (typically 6–8 mm) produce intentional barrel distortion and can provide a field of view of up to 180°.
- Lenses between 8 mm and 16 mm may be designed as either fisheye or rectilinear, while lenses longer than 16 mm are generally rectilinear.
- Wide-angle lenses are available as prime or zoom lenses. Prime lenses generally offer better optical performance, while zoom lenses provide greater flexibility.
- Industrial wide-angle lenses may include lockable manual focus and lockable iris controls for reliable operation in high-vibration environments.
Custom Wide-Angle Lenses at Avantier
At Avantier, we produce custom wide-angle lenses in many configurations, including low distortion designs with built-in correction. These lenses produce clear images of entire rooms or factory halls, with fine details still discernible. We also offer large-aperture, low- distortion wide-angle lenses with maximum apertures of up to f/1.2 and distortion levels below 3%. These lenses are suitable for surveillance and low-light applications such as tracking and imaging.
Instead of providing in-stock options, we work with you to design the ideal wide angle lens for your application. Then we produce it to the highest standards. State-of-the-art manufacturing equipment means that no lens configuration is beyond our reach. Contact us today to setup your initial consult or to place a custom order.
